Aktiv Dödshjälp: 4:48
28/06/07 || Euthanatos
You know what’s great? Reviewing an album in which the band responsible uses a language you have no familiarity with. These damn Swedes. On the other hand, it does make you really pay attention to the music, focusing on nothing other than the sonic assault. Yeah, I learned that from those hip magazines. Sonic Assault. What faggotry.
Aktiv Dödshjälp, whatever the hell that means (I have the suspicion it has something to do with euthanasia… But what do I know), plays malicious domineering grindcore. It all starts off with a static-filled narration as intro and then it’s all mayhem, riot and noise.
At first, one might think that’s a bad thing, right? Well, I actually enjoy this. A lot. Although technically grindcore, Aktiv Dödshjälp have a lot of slow-paced moments, and noisy as these fuckers are, all instruments sound distinct to me, and the vocals are a particularly nice surprise; naturally they emulate the sound of pigs screaming, but all in very good taste. What they’re screaming about, I have no idea, but hey, they sound really pissed, so I’m good with that.
The production isn’t crystal-clear, nor it should be, considering the genre, but like I mentioned before, everything is perceived nicely and no qualms at all on the technical department. The punkish of grind meshes adequately with the death metal assault, so these lads have obviously got things in order. Some black metal influences, straight out of oldies (but goodies) like Darkthrone and Mayhem can also be noticed here, and that, to me, is always welcome.
Extreme Noise Terror, Disrupt, Rotten Sound and the like, if you’re into these bands, you should definitely check Aktiv Dödshjälp out. Good stuff.
The cover: Some dead person or something like that. Maybe just sleeping. I don’t know. I’d rather see Mary Mayhem here, since these guys know her. Fuckers.
7.5 fucking incomprehensible languages out of 10.
